Winter Wellness Tips
Winter Wellness for Pets:
Keeping your furry friends happy and healthy this June!
As the chill of winter settles in across Australia, it’s not just us humans who feel the change - our pets do too. June marks the start of cooler, shorter days and for our four-legged friends, this can mean less outdoor time, increased joint stiffness and even seasonal blues. At Paws For Change, we know how much your pets mean to you - and we believe every dog deserves to be safe, warm and loved. That’s why we’ve pulled together this essential guide to keeping your pets healthy and happy throughout the winter months.
First things first: keep them warm. Just like people, pets can feel the cold, especially smaller breeds, older dogs or those with short fur. Ensure your pet has a cosy, draught-free sleeping area with plenty of blankets. Winter pet apparel, such as jackets and jumpers, are not only cute - they’re also practical. You can find some of our winter wear here!
When it comes to exercise, don’t let the cold be an excuse to skip walking. Staying active supports physical health and helps beat boredom. If it’s too cold or wet outside, switch things up with indoor play sessions. Puzzle toys, obedience training games and simple tug-of-war can do wonders to keep your dog stimulated and moving. And if you need some warmth against the Winter chill - check out our range of fleece lined hoodies here!
Another key consideration in June is health maintenance. Winter is a great time to book your pet in for a check up. Cold weather can aggravate arthritis and other chronic conditions, so early intervention is vital. Ask your vet about winter-friendly diet adjustments and supplements, especially for older dogs or those recovering from rescue and trauma. And don’t forget about parasite prevention - fleas and worms don't take winter off!
Speaking of which, June is a great time to think about giving back. Whether it’s donating to our rescue, sponsoring a dog or shopping our merchandise range, your support makes a real impact. Every dollar helps dogs in need - both here in Australia and places like Bali where we support local initiatives rescuing and rehabilitating unwanted and uncared for dogs.
This winter, let’s wrap our pets in love, care and compassion. At Paws For Change, we believe change starts with small acts - like a warm blanket, a winter walk, or a donation that helps a dog find its furever home.
Let’s make June a month of warmth and wellbeing for our furry companions.
