How to Make Road Trips and Vacations Pet-Friendly!

Who doesn’t love a good road trip? Good tunes, good snacks, and the thrill of a new adventure in the air!

If you’d love to take your pup on these wonderful adventures, we’re all for it! Just make sure you’ve got all your essentials packed and ready to go!

Your doggie will actually need a lot of the same things you do! Food, water, plenty of snacks and regular toilet stops.

We’ve got all your basics that you’ll need for a road trip with your furry friends below!

Get them used to the car

Before you go for big long drives at a time make sure your pup is feeling comfortable in the car, do a few laps around the block, drive them to the beach or maybe a dog-friendly bush walk a bit further away than usual. This will get your dog comfortable in the car, and they won’t be as alarmed at a big long drive!

Hot tip, if you can, try and leave your windows down while driving, leaving the windows open for your furry friend can often help them with car sickness! Plus we all know dogs love hanging out the window.

Pack Extra Snacks

You and your doggie will both need fuel for the road! So make sure you pack lots of easy snacks, if they’re dry snacks it’s easiest to just pop them in a zip lock bag, otherwise take an esky if you’re planning on taking snacks that need to be kept cold!

Not sure what snacks to pack? Check out our blog on DIY pet treats!

Pre-Plan Stops

There’s nothing worse than being busting for the loo, so make sure you pre-plan your route and you’re aware of places you can stop and let your dog out to stretch their legs and do their business.

Make sure you also plan some stops to get some food and nourish yourself and your pal.

Don’t Forget Water!

Just like us, our doggos need lots of water as well. Make sure you’re stocked up, and make sure when you’re stopping for a drink break that there’s a toilet break not too far away!

Keep them comfortable

Everyone gets antsy and bugging to move in long car trips, so make sure your pup doesn’t feel that way! Pop down their favourite blanket and a soft toy for them. That way they have the ability to take a nap when they’re not busy sticking out the windows and seeing all the sights for themselves!

Going Away for Winter?

If you’re a fan of the cold, and looking for a winter getaway make sure your fur baby stays nice and warm during your trip! Rug them up with a blanket, and a warm winter coat or scarf.
